This dive site is easy to dive but for experienced divers there is lots to see between 7 and 30 meters. Oftern this reef is visited by dolphins. Beautiful underwater landscapes can be explored in this big hard coral garden. A highlight in Safaga!Seven high coral blocks elevate from the bottom in 12 meter depth up close to the surface. Soft corals and schools of fish can be found everywhere. Very good for photography. Parallel to the coast up "Ras Abu Soma" can this hard coral garden be found. The best dive is on depth between 5 and 15 meters. Also suitable for beginners. Murrays and also Eagle Rays live between the large plate corals that are typical for this dive site. There are various options to dive this site and drift dives are also possible. This dive site is in the open sea and can only be dived in good weather conditions. You will get rewarded by beautiful coral formations and sometimes also big fish, though. You can reach the outer side through a channel that gets formed by the main reef and a coral block. You can explore a cave full of glasfish at a depth of 10 meters. Two big blocks form a street to four high blocks that are situated at the northern end. You can circle around this very small reef in about 50 minutes. The colorful growing of corals and the enormous amounts of fish will make every divers' heart miss beat. Gamul Kebir has the shape of a horseshoe. In southern as well as in northern direction can you explore lots of things at this dive site. Napoleons, stone fish, murray and the turtle "Quasimodo" live together here. In the north and in the south there is a plateau and on both the diving is excellent. The drop-offs are spectacular and you can often find big fish if you look out into the blue. Middle Reef is more an extended reef district than "just" one dive site. Mazelike corals give the reef a shape of "swiss cheese". On the outer side drift diving is another option. You can reach the coral garden through a canal on the northern side. Strong currents not unusual. The southern side is also suitable for diving. Beginners as well as experienced divers can see lots here. Apart from a lot of small fish there are also eagle rays and turtle known to be here. Dolphins have been seen here aswell. A tragical nautical error led to this disaster that caused the sinking of "Salem Express" 14/12/1991. The wreck is lying on the starboard side. You can see a lot of detail because the coral growth is not that advanced yet. A small but nice reef where you can circle around in about 60 minutes. A highlight are the Gorgonia at the southern end. Abu Kafan is one of the most popular in Safaga. Breathtaking drop-offs are between the northern and southern plateau. This and the good chance of seeing big fish will make the dive here a memorable experience. |
